International Technical Consultation on Education Sector Responses to Early and Unintended Pregnancy

Date:
4 November 2014 to 6 November 2014
City:
Sandton, Johannesburg
Country:
South Africa

This consultation brings together government representatives from health and education, UN partners, civil society, young people's organisations and experts to review the evidence on education sector responses to early and unintended pregnancy. It is an issue which impacts particularly on girls' and young women's rights to education.

As part of a longer term programme of work, this consultation will develop recommendations on global guidance for the education sector on strategies on pregnancy prevention (including comprehensive sexuality education), linkages to health services and making schools safer and more gender equitable.

This joint global/regional activity is also in support of the East and Southern Africa Ministerial Commitment on comprehensive sexuality education and health services for adolescents and young people. Six partner countries involved in implementing the Commitment will be present.
