John Mugo is the Director of Data and Voice at Twaweza East Africa. He heads Twaweza’s two large evidence generation vehicles, Uwezo, Africa’s largest assessment of learning that is conducted annually in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, and Sauti za Wananchi, Africa’s first nationally-representative mobile-phone based survey. He holds a PhD (Special Needs Education) from the Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany. He sits in various global, regional and national boards for the advancement of education. Previously, John headed the department of special needs education at Kenyatta University, Kenya. He has published widely on inclusion, equity and quality of learning, and is active in sharing thoughts and perspectives online to shape the global education policy and practice.
