#UNGA 2024 Side Event on Foundational Learning in Africa
The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will be held in New York, United States of America, from September 10 -24, 2024, under the theme, ‘Unity and Diversity for Advancing Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity, Everywhere and for All.’ World leaders will address the assembly during the high-level general debates. UNGA convenes senior political figures in government and leadership worldwide, including African Heads of State and Government, continental and regional bodies, and economic communities.
The African Union and ADEA, in partnership with foundational learning stakeholders, VvoB, TaRL Africa, Hempel Foundation, UNICEF, and Human Capital Africa, will hold a side event on foundational learning on the margins of UNGA. The event’s theme is ‘Scaling Success: Advancing Foundational Literacy and Numeracy through Partnerships and Innovation in Africa.’ The event will help raise the salience of foundational learning, showcase its bright spots, share lessons, call for increased investments, and exchange with stakeholders on how Africa can accelerate reforms that will reverse learning poverty.
