ADEA’s position on non-violence, tolerance and peace

ADEA joins the international community in consistently condemning, in the strongest terms, all forms of radicalization and violent extremism that occur in different places of the world. Such acts not only erode the gains made in society, they also affect the whole of humanity and negate the principle of universal values.

ADEA believes, and has a strong conviction, that education and training can play a central role in inculcating a holistic learning experience if the right mix of life skills and other programs are introduced early in schools to influence children’s behavior, attitude, habits and values.

ADEA recognizes the need to guide parents, teachers and others with the necessary skills, capacity and awareness to identify and report any worrying behaviors. The role of Education is more than ever a key weapon against all kinds of violence and ADEA strongly appeals to Governments around the world to endorse and develop integrated, peaceful, inclusive approaches and strategies that support the implementation of a comprehensive program on non-violence, tolerance and peace, especially for our young generation.

"Terrorism, extremism and violence against the innocent is an attack on our common humanity and values – whether they occur in Central African Republic, France, Israel, Kenya, Lebanon, Nigeria, Somalia or Syria”, said Ms. Oley Dibba-Wadda, ADEA Executive Secretary.

ADEA extends her deepest condolences to the families of all the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. ADEA stands with Governments and people affected by tragic events such as war and terrorism.
