Port Louis, Mauritius – April 17, 2025 – ADEA Executive Secretary, Mr. Albert Nsengiyumva, delivered the Opening Remarks at Les Assises de l’Éducation, Mauritius’ National Education Forum, held from April 15–17, 2025. The high-level event convened education leaders under the theme “Un modèle éducatif à visage humain” (A Human-Centered Education Model), with a shared vision to build systems that educate both the mind and heart of learners.

The forum brought together policymakers, educators, and development partners to examine key reform areas including curriculum transformation, modernized assessment methods, integration of technology in learning, and improved conditions for teachers. In his remarks, Mr. Nsengiyumva praised Mauritius for its commitment to inclusive and holistic education, noting that the country’s advances in early childhood development, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and distance learning can offer valuable lessons for peer nations across the continent.

Reflecting on the discussions, Mr. Nsengiyumva highlighted the continued need to address equity gaps by incentivizing education in marginalized communities. He stressed that the momentum from the forum must translate into real policy action – particularly in teacher professional development, data-driven planning, and inclusive education strategies. During his visit, the Executive Secretary also held productive engagements with H.E. the President of Mauritius, the Minister of Education and Human Resources, and the Minister of Higher Education to deepen collaboration between ADEA and Mauritius. He reaffirmed ADEA’s commitment to advancing a human-centered, inclusive, and future-ready education system for all African learners.
