ADEA and AIMS-NEI explore collaboration in science, math and technology

ADEA had the pleasure of greeting Thierry Zomahoun, Executive Director and Mireille Massouka Bih, Director, Partnerships and Public Engagement of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) at it offices in Tunis, on January 30, 2014.

ADEA and AIMS-NEI have agreed to collaborate on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) policy issues. The collaboration will focus on programs targeting African Ministries of Education, Training, Research and Innovation. The objective is to integrate STEAM into their policies and programs which will contribute to enhancing interest and investment in science and innovation in Africa.

An MoU is being developed, which will spell out the areas and modalities of cooperation between the two organizations. 
Founded in 2013, AIMS is a pan-African network of centers of Excellence for post-graduate training, research and public engagement in mathematical sciences. AIMS’s vision is to lead the transformation of Africa through innovative scientific training, technical advances and breakthrough discoveries which benefit the whole of society.   

AIMS has centers in Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal and South Africa and plans to build a network of 15 centers by 2023. The AIMS-NEI Secretariat is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
