Webinar on bi-plurilingualism in education

This webinar will present the findings and recommendations from a multi-country research study on multilingualism and bi/plurilingualism in schools in the central Sahel (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger); have two countries (Burkina Faso and Senegal) share their country process and current efforts on scaling up bi/plurilingual education programmes; and will propose a panel discussion to hear recommendations for countries from experts in the field.

Objectives:

  • Raise awareness on the importance of teaching in national and local languages children can understand to tackle the current learning crisis
  • Review the development of multilingualism and plurilingualism in schools in the last decades in the central Sahel.
  • Learn about the experiences of two leading West African countries scaling up bi-plurilingual education programmes.
  • Listen from and discuss with experts in the field on what are the key factors and processes countries should keep in mind when designing and implementing bi-plurilingual education programmes.
