In September 2025, AFLAI convened representatives from 13 African Ministries of Education in Nairobi in a co creation workshop that focused on strengthening foundational learning across Africa through timely, high quality data and assessment systems that can guide instruction and policy.

Following outcomes from the Nairobi convening, AFLAI plans to develop a microsite which will serve as a portal of resources to help improve three critical areas of foundational learning assessments:

• Accuracy, reliability and comparability.
• Item development, data collection and management; and
• Data analysis.

The AFLAI Microsite is expected to be launched this July, at FLEX2026 in Malawi.
