ADEA presents the Education Research Award in Africa (ERAA) with ASIG at CIES 2014
During the 2014 Conference of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) held on March 9-15 in Toronto, Canada, the CIES Africa Special Interest Group (ASIG)* and ADEA organized a reception on Wednesday, March 12 to present the Education Research in Africa Award (ERAA). Over 50 ASIG and other CIES participants came and were briefed about ERAA’s earlier editions. They were also informed of the official launch of the upcoming edition in May 2014 in Tunis.
The objectives of the Education Research Award in Africa (ERAA) are:
• To promote excellence in educational research in African universities, research institutes and networks and also among Africans working or studying in institutions in other parts of the world;
• To identify, reward and foster outstanding accomplishments in educational research in Africa.
ERRA is managed and implemented by ADEA in partnership with the AfDB and the African Development Institute (ADI), with the financial support from the Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC),
The relationship between ASIG and ADEA started back in 2006 and has been one of the most rewarding collaborations in terms of the achievements made thus far. The partnership focuses not only on scholarly research that informs policy and practice on the continent and across the world but brings together the two parties to foster and advance educational quality and discourse. It is in this context that ERAA, an initiative of ADEA, was conceptualized and implemented. Currently ASIG provides the bulk of the membership of the Scientific Committee and juries of ERAA.
*The Africa Special Interest Group, of the Comparative and International Education Society, aims to foster a sense of community among their members, inform the membership of best practices and current research in the field, and provide a valuable space for networking and dialoguing on Africa education.
